To commemorate 50 years from when this much admired Hunter T7 XL568 (X) brand new and shiny, was flown into Horsham St Faith during December 1958 by Flt Lt Geoff Steggall, to join the 74 ‘Tiger’ (F) Squadron.
In July 1959 this Hunter flew the fastest time in the Daily Mail London-Paris air race commemorating Bleriot’s famous flight in 1909.
Now, almost 50 years on it has finished its service life and been restored with the original Tiger Squadron insignia and proudly hangs in the new Cold War Hall of the RAF Museum at Cosford

Hawker Hunter T7 G-VETA started its service life with 65 (F) Squadron as XL600. In the following years it was transferred from squadron to squadron until it finally was sold privately and became G-BVWN and moved to its new home at Bournemouth where here again it was sold and re-registered as G-VETA.
After extensive restoration it was once more sold, this time to
Skyblue Aviation and is now maintained at
Exeter by the
Hunter Flying Club,
It is frequently seen over the skies of Dorset and at airshows.

Saunders Roe SR177R as they may have been seen in RAF Squadron service during the 1960s.
The 177 being powered by one De Havilland Spectre Rocket Motor with a
De Havilland Junior Gyron Turbojet beneath. A height of 60,000ft would have been acheived within 2 minutes of take off.
Unfortunately the project was cancelled by the Government in 1957 despite orders from the British and German services. This was one of many severe blows to the UK Aviation industry at that time.

Bournemouth Wednesday September 10th, 1919 Schneider Trophy Race became a complete fiasco.
The only competitor to complete the 200 mile race was Sgt. G. Janello flying the Italian Savoia S13.
Unfortunately for Janello the weather had closed in producing sea fog along the course and he made the error of turning in Studland Bay where the standby marker boat was situated, instead of at the marker boat in Swanage Bay. Both bays looking very similar in the fog. Why the standby marker boat was moored in Studland Bay has never been recorded.
The Royal Aero Club could only announce the contest void, but having agreed that Janello was the only competitor to complete the course and in bad weather and that they had made the error of mooring the standby marker boat in Studland Bay.... they would invite Italy to host the next contest.
